Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP) Practice Exam

The rule being tested is about a temporary exception to Hours of Service for short-haul operations. When you’re within 200 air miles and operating under the 16-hour on-duty limit, you normally can't extend that period. However, a storm-related task—storm work—creates an urgent, weather-driven need to respond or restore essential services. In those situations, regulations allow extending the on-duty period to complete the critical storm-related work, ensuring safety and timely response rather than delaying action.

Other situations don’t automatically qualify for this extension: it isn’t granted just because weather is favorable, and it isn’t something a driver can request on a whim. The extension is specifically tied to storm work that requires immediate attention.
